Thank God It's Friday!
Well although I do not work,my mind-set is still that of an employed individual, so when Friday arrives, I think yippee! Then I realize that I really don't have much to do on this week-end or any other week-end. I am getting stuck in a rut! Call it age, friends too busy with their children and grandchildren to go on the Friday evening lime, little money, the fact is that I need some stimulation! So I'm thinking hmm... and a few things come to mind.
1. Return to the days of youth. Make love in a car! Actually this idea was given to me many years ago by a couple in their 70's. They explained that as a couple with children, they often could not go out so from time to time, they would put the kids to bed and go have fun in their car, which would be parked in their garage!
2. Take a bus ride to some part of Trinidad or Tobago that I have never seen or have not visited for a while. The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) operates a few guided tours to places such as the Pitch Lake in La Brea and I've been told that it is lots of fun. Your local transit company may also offer tours. If it does not, find a map of your area, close your eyes and point. Where ever the finger lands, that's where your off to this week-end! Happy trails!
3. Take a walk around your neighbourhood. Whenever I am with my mother, she and I enjoy sharing a walk and using our critical eyes in admiration of people's upgrades of their homes or gardens. It's lots of fun and with company, it is even better.
4. Bathe in the rain! This is the rainy season in Trinidad and Tobago so at some time this week-end a little rain will fall. Actually a lot of rain may fall and as long as your backyard isn't flooded, you can re-live your childhood by bathing in the rain. Put your face to the rain, stick out your tongue and feel the cool drops as they sprinkle downwards. Drag your spouse, significant other, the dog, outside too. Bring out the kid in you! LOL!
5. Spending time with an older individual can be very heartwarming. Most older people have a lot to contribute and the exchange between you and them can be stimulating. Take the time to say "heh" to the ole fella down the street. You'll put a smile on his face!
6. Go para-sailing or take a balloon ride or better yet, kindly ask the Honourable Prime Minister to lend us one of her helicopters for a ride. Yes, I am dreaming , but I think you can para-sail in Tobago.
7. Now that I am in Tobago, I want to go scuba-diving at Speyside or just snorkeling in those beautiful blue waters.
8. Play Scrabble making dirty words only.
9. Commune with nature by taking a walk in a park or a nature reserve. Try to identify as many native plants and herbs as possible. Or just climb the mango, orange, tamarind, guava or any other type of tree in your own backyard.
It may be that like me, all you do this week-end is spend time with the family or relatives, attend church, talk with friends on the phone or share a meal with a neighbour but whatever you do, treasure the time spent on the exercise, make it fun and thank your God for tender mercies.
