March 13th - Bamboo

Image
Being a creature  of habit, as I left the house today I thought of how much I miss the peaceful feeling that my morning walking sessions generally bring. Everything has a season so morning walks are now relegated to the weekends. Que sera sera. As I took these pics of the bamboo, a plant I so well love, even if it can house snakes, my feared enemies, I again thought of Spirit and constancy. Like bamboo I'm flexible and resilient; able to bend as the winds ( challenges) buffet, keeping my footing in clay, sand or loam.  Spirit makes us all the same, in some way. How do you see yourself exhibiting flexibility and resilience?  Are you passing on that strength?  Good day!

Sunday February 14, 2016

Today marks the first Sunday in the Christian calender of Lent. Today is also Valentine's Day.  Both the Christian and secular calenders coincide today to speak of love.    I can't say that this day is one which holds significance for me on both counts.  I did appreciate, once upon a time, Valentine's Day  -  in the middle of a drab winter, it certainly perked up the spirits. If I really have to reflect on why this Sunday in 2016 is significant to me it's probably because as Jesus started His fast, I believe, He took on 'human-ness', fasted in the desert so as to understand me better and to save me and as I go through the trials that life brings, I can know that with steadfastness, I will come out of each and every situation spiritually and emotionally stronger.   Early this morning, I began thinking on this love day, and not having a love myself, I found I was becoming a bit uncomfortable since Valentine's Day really  "ain't no bi...

Letting Spirit be

If I sit back and let Spirit be for just a little while I can see life with awe. Births, deaths, friendships, old, young joys and sorrows. Last night I had a very good time at a fete, meeting old friends and young people whom I knew as children and have grown and I now include them in my circle of friends. This morning, I am told that someone who was ny father's friend and became mine as I grew, passed on after an acute and brief (thank God) illness. My tears are flowing. I had to write and now feel that the sorrow has been expunged; only the joyful remembrances of my friend remain. Spirit has again let me see the awe of life.

Merry Christmas

I think for all of us especially those of us who actively celebrate the birth of Christ, Christmas becomes a time of warm feelings,  giving of one’s self in particular through gifts, and of reflection through tradition.  The house must look beautiful, and the foods have to be all present.  Where there are children, big and small, there is an especial joy of passing on family values.   One can see throughout the Christmas season the simple exchanges of love as a knowing smile is shared between strangers as they pass, each laden with packages; the smile saying “Christmas!  Phew, lots of work, I understand, we love it “. For me, the reflective side of Christmas always dominates.  It is a time of even more thinking than is usual for me and a time of forced hibernation.  My mind hibernates for the last quarter of the year.  I have  concluded that occurs, because I was born during this season (December 30th )  and I imagine that within the...
