A Conundrum
Dear Readers,
For the past few years,
I have not met a man who impresses me. O’ I have met men and I am pleased that
they are impressed by me but…I ain’t interested one single bit. They are all nice men, in their own right and
I have no difficulty in being a platonic friend, as a matter of fact some are
lively, intelligent conversationalists whom I miss when they ‘digs out’ but my romantic
heart is not into them.
There are times
when I miss the headiness of romance and do indeed consider that maybe I should
take on one of them. Trust me that
feeling quickly diminishes when I peruse through my mental resumes list. None are bright as buttons, some are dumb as
oxen. The other side to this story is mine. I have
never been good at the “boyfriend, lover, business, so I may just be rejecting
“gifted horses…”. Who knows?

Now that I am past the preamble, here is the
problem. One of the ‘dearly beloved’ has
come forward with a suggestion that we run the kitchen of a small bar, located
in Diego Martin. He loves my bread and
my cooking in general, so much so that sometimes I believe that is the only
reason he visits: to see what I have cooked.
I have always wanted to operate a
sandwich bar, thus the idea is tempting.
The other ‘dearly beloved’ is a great cook! So I am thinking and I want your opinion now,
how can I get these 2 together to operate this kitchen? I really cannot take the risk of leaving my temporary
job, not even for my dream and these 2 are unemployed. I want them to get to know and like each so
that they can work together and not get angry because they both like me. Actually, I don’t care if they get angry with
me as long as they run the place successfully.
So what’s the solution,
folks? I already have a name for the
place, ‘My Boyfriends’ Kitchen’. Help me
put this business plan together. I feel I know the solution yet it cannot hurt to get advice from some learned folks, eh?
Until,
I love it! Have a lime home invite de botha dem- (listen to Kitchie) an whoever is Las Man Standin open de business wid him. LOL
ReplyDeleteHi J,
ReplyDeleteAs always, I read your piece with successive chuckles. Coincidentally, whenever I encounter a group of women, I tell them my baptismal name is "My Boyfriend". I challenge them to introduce me to their Beloveds using that name. I enjoy seeing a mixture of disbelief and mirth on their faces. I therefore support the idea of calling your proposed sandwich place, "My Boyfriends".
As regards getting the "dearly beloveds" together, simply invite them and discuss the business idea.. They run the show but you manage the finances.
Have a day as beautiful as you and may The Lord continue to hold your hand and walk with you.
Love always

Heh T,
DeleteI am just so happy to hear from you, love your story and appreciate your advice. I have already told the folks to approach the micro and small business government institution for funding. When I see them making that move, then I will put in my sweat equity.
Greetings J
ReplyDeleteThe idea sounds great I will say to you from the beginning " Do not give up your job, nor include your job in this business venture"
Listen to all parties concern and yes try to get them to work together If as you say they are unemployed and they have great ideas that compliment each other then give it a try on paper first
Start with that approach then go from there Am sure each will have something in the closet that can work to your advantage

One has to remember that the food business is not normally a "moneymaker". One cannot give up a job that pays weekly/monthly in the hope of supporting oneself on what comes in to sit at your tables. The ongoing expenses for staffing, licenses, unsold products, and expenses cannot be calculated before you open the doors. Of course, the late night services has serious drawbacks and is most uncertain.
ReplyDeleteIf you feel that you have some cooking skills which can bring in extra income, catering might be a more realistic service. Provided that one or more of the partners has the equipment for bulk cooking, bulk service packaging, and is mobile enough for deliveries and pick ups. In the best of times, it could take two or more years to see a profit. It also means saying goodbye to a social life, no matter how infrequent.
Perhaps, there is one or maybe there are two products which the trio can do very well. Then one may plan to produce a well-known item and provide to certain shops which are already in operation. For example, a weekend item which can be refrigerated for more than one day and still offer a tasty product. Test out the product, firstly, by offering samples free, or at an attractive price and see what comes out. It is like fishing, if the bait is taken, you can put out more lines, but everyday is not fishing day!
That is the most and the best that I can say right now. Remember, to have a backup financial plan and not expect too much at first.
Good luck! Good health! Patience and Persistence. Have a wonderful week. I am still frozen even though the man says that Spring is her. Well! the grass is not riz, and I am not wondering where the birdies "is", M.
