Words You Should Never Forget
Hello, hello, hello,
What words of wisdom do you hold in mind and put to use?
What words of advice would you pass on to another? Want to share? Please do!
Watching life go by as the taxi sped along the highway. Actually I was praying to the good God that we get to our destination safely since 'boyfriend' was driving just a bit too fast for me. Anyway, I began to think of the phrases that stick in the mind and how much I've used the advice emanating from said phrases. I was trying to think of the proverbial 10 phrases but these are what came to mind.
1. Walk with 'vex' money.
Do you remember this one? It was first indoctrinated in me at age 13 by an older cousin. I hear that there was even a calyspo with this line in it. It relates to ensure that you have enough funds to depart a date if things aren't going well. I've always taken it to mean that I should have some semblance of financial independence at all times, even if that means that all the money I have is only enough for the taxi-cab to leave the lousy situation.
2. You have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason.
Listen more, talk less. Or at least, Listen, Think, then Talk. (LTT).
3. Never say never.
I believe in this one, too bad! We cannot predicate all the negative or positive events that may occur in our lives, so try to keep an open mind. I try to enjoy to the fullest the happy times because I know the will pass. I try to accept to the best of my abilities, the sad times, knowing that "this too shall pass away".
4. Money - 1/3 for bills, 1/3 for savings, 1/3 for fun.
Many years ago in discussing what should be done with an unexpected financial bonus, a young man told me that this is the formula he uses. I tried it, liked it and have kept on using it. It makes me feel satisfied all round, in the use of my money.
5. Never lend what you cannot afford to lose.
I tweaked this one from the stock brokering business, where you are cautioned to never invest what you cannot afford to lose. I have found it to be good advice in all spheres of life. Be alert to what is asked of you? Consider the implications of lending? Don't lend your money if you know you cannot afford to lose it. Don't lend your belongings if you know it would be difficult to find more. Consider if the friendship is important to you before you begin lending advice. Don't "lend" your "loved one", if it is a big deal to lose him or her.
Looking forward to hearing YOUR words you should never forget. Write to me.
