Apologies, Sympathies & The Week in Review

Hi people,

It seems to me that last week just raced by so much so that I did not even realize that it had ended and I had not posted a thing!  Naughty me!  I'm sorry. I really got busy, plus I only had snippets of things to write about.

Next, I've got to apologize to those who have tried to post comments with no luck.  Please continue to try while I continue to fiddle with it.  I did a test today and it worked.  Let me know if it still doesn't work with you.  Thank you peeps, for your suggestions on ways of making the writings more interesting.

Last week was a kind of interesting you know.  First we had Tomas wrecking St. Lucia and other islands.  Have you viewed the devastation?  I am beginning to believe that God is a Trini!  I prayed for my roof to stay on and it  did.  Thank-you God.  Then we had the funeral of the sitting Prime Minister of Barbados, David Thompson.  My sympathy goes out to his family and  the people of Barbados. Whenever the Caribbean loses people who are willing to stand up in the public eye, it is a loss.  He was a relatively young man who perhaps, would have brought innovation to the world of Caribbean politics.

The death that really hit me was that of Mrs Sabrina Lalla-Mitchell.  I never knew the woman but I wonder if someone could not have even thrown a chair or blown the horn of a car to distract this man from brutally ending this woman's life.  I feel that women must pray for her soul, pray for her children and pray for women and men who may be enduring spousal abuse.  Let us 'stand in the gap' so to speak, for these individuals. Her death has really troubled me.  Do you wonder what you can do to curtail such terrible events?  Post your suggestions.

Watching a local television programme entitled 'Moving On' yesterday, where part of the discussion centred on abuse, one of the participants commented that in speaking with a young woman recently, on what attributes this young woman was seeking in a man, her responses were trivial (my word) with much focus on the physical.  It got me to thinking...how many of us were taught about the key factors which should be considered when selecting a mate?  What would you say are some key factors?  Off the top of my head, I would select honesty and loyalty.  What tips would you put forward to a young woman or man? Comments, comments, comments please.

I got square eyes last week attending a few of the shows that formed part of the 14th European Film Festival.  I saw some interesting German, Spanish, Belgian and Irish films.  The subject matters, timing and actors are different from that which we see here in Trinidad and Tobago.  I like the fact that ordinary subjects are covered and not necessarily made extraordinary; that makes me use la cabeza in trying to discern what the director wanted to achieve.  I also like the fact that the actors look like ordinary people, they are not super beautiful, super handsome, super sexy.  Tomorrow is the last day of the festival, here in Trinidad before it moves on to Tobago.  I'll be getting square-eyes again!

Then I was gifted with a Sunday concert of the Love Movement .  It was my first time attending a concert of this group and I enjoyed it throughly.  The voices, the costuming, the music!  The Love Movement is scheduled to perform at the Lincoln Centre, New York City soon.  Trinidad has got talent.  Yes my Tobago people, I haven't forgotten that talented choirs exists there.  I love Signal Hill AlumniChoir!  So leh meh big up TnT Talent!  We've got it!

So that's it people, talk to me.  Tell me what's up with you.

Later.
